Four good pieces of firewood and Four bad ones

Moldy or rotten wood
Wood, in its natural state, is an ideal breeding ground for mould and fungi. This mould is removed during the drying process, making it safe for burning. Mold can be easily identified by its telltale yellow or green blotch; if you see this, don't burn the wood because it will release smoke that will pollute the air. When you burn rotten wood, it becomes less dense and thus does not burn as well. This low-grade wood will almost certainly produce more smoke and unpleasant odours.

Green wood

The term "Wholesale log" refers to wood that has been recently cut down. Wood must be properly dried and cured before it can be used for burning, among other things. When you burn green wood, it can produce creosote, which is a thick tar that can clog your chimneys. This results in poor ventilation and possibly intoxication inside your home. This also increases the risk of fire because airflow will be restricted.

Plywood and chipboard

This is a low-cost wood that is commonly used to make furniture. That furniture is assembled by glueing together individual pieces of chipboard or plywood. Even if your plywood or chipboard contains minor amounts of adhesive, burning it will fill your room with harmful toxins.
